The Honorable Rick McCabe has impacted the lives of many youth since his graduation from Columbia High School, and now he impacts the lives of residents of East Greenbush as the Town Supervisor. Supervisor McCabe made extraordinary contributions as a teacher and coach in the Rensselaer City School District for 34 years. During his teaching years, McCabe coached and mentored many students. He has been an active volunteer with the Southern Rensselaer County Boys and Girls Club for over 30 years. In addition, the youth of East Greenbush benefited from the mentoring and coaching skills through Supervisor McCabe’s commitment to youth sports.
As a co-founder of the East Greenbush Girls Basketball Association, McCabe established a league that has endured the challenges of the years, and boasts a current enrollment of over 300 girls. As a coach for Columbia Girls Softball, McCabe was a part of the successful program for over a decade. In addition, Supervisor McCabe was radio personality “Rick James” of WGNA fame.
In a more public aspect to Supervisor McCabe’s career, after serving as a Town Board Member and Deputy Supervisor, McCabe worked closely with former East Greenbush Supervisor Bob Angelini as he fought the battle of his life and succumbed to the cancer. McCabe accepted responsibility for the Town and was elected to the position of Town Supervisor in 2006. Supervisor McCabe also serves as the Police Commissioner for the Town, and is exhibiting all of the team and consciences building skills that made him a successful teacher, coach, mentor and community builder. Supervisor was nominated for the Columbia High School Hall of Fame, by his wife, Linda McCabe, and received many letters of support from the scholastic, political, sports and civic communities.
