Drew Romanowski is an admired teacher, coach, mentor and volunteer for Columbia HS, the same school he graduated from in 1992. In a letter to his colleagues, Drew wrote “As teachers, we make an impact in the lives of our students which often extends well beyond the walls of our classrooms” a statement which exemplifies Drew’s role in our community.
After Drew graduated from CHS, he earned his BS in Economics and Management Science from SUNY Cortland and his Masters in Education from Springfield College and then taught at Valley West Day School, Holyoke High School, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk HS, before he returned to CHS in 2007.
Today, Drew teaches Psychology, Regents Economics, Advanced Placement Microeconomics where his AP classes consistently reach maximum enrollment and beat the national average for the College Board National Assessments.
Drew has committed himself to in the schools, the district and the community. He is active in the East Greenbush Teachers Association, where he is now President after serving as Vice President, a CHS building representative, member of the Grievance Committee, President’s Cabinet and the five-person Negotiations Team.
Drew has also dedicated himself to athletics, serving as a football coach in nearly every school he worked, including two years as the Varsity Head Football Coach at CHS. He has coached house, travel and All Star baseball teams for SORENSCO Babe Ruth, East Greenbush Castleton Little League and Twin Town Little League as well as serving as the President of Twin Town Warriors Travel baseball club, all in addition to coaching basketball at the East Greenbush YMCA.
Drew has been described not only as humble, inquisitive, cordial, and civic minded, but also fair, firm, honest and optimistic, and a team player. He even donates two pints of blood when most donate one.
The East Greenbush Education Foundation celebrates Drew, who, with his wife Shannon and two sons (Kason a 10th grader at Columbia High School and Nolan a 6th grader at Howard L Goff Middle School), has a bright future in our community.
